5 Phrases That Instantly Improve Your IELTS Coherence Score

1. Concession + Counterargument

Use "While it is true that... , it can be argued that..." to show you understand both sides before defending your position. Examiners reward this because it shows controlled, logical paragraph progression.

2. Consequence Signposting

Replace overused "so" or "therefore" with "As a result,", "Consequently," or "This inevitably leads to...". These phrases show cause-effect logic rather than simple addition.
